Maiden Tower Interior Stairway leading up to one
of the slitted windows in the tower. Sunlight enters the narrow-slitted
windows, which flare outward to illuminate the interior on its
downward passage. The windows may have been designed so that
light would fall upon sacred niches on the opposite wall from
the window. See niche in Photo 51. The purpose of the niche has
yet to be identified. Photo: Gallagher |
