Timber Industry  Timber became a big industry in the Siberian Taiga where prisoners were used as free labor to do forestry, cutting down gigantic trees. In winter, the prisoners worked under extreme climatic conditions in ice and snow. Alakbar worked in one such sawmill where he injured his finger in an accident.
