The President's office in the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences on the second floor of Naghiyev's mansion built in memory of his son. These two rooms, shown here, unlike other areas in the building, are based on Mouritanian (Moorish) architectural elements, which is branch of Islamic art and architecture developed in the westernmost lands of the Muslims, known as the Maghreb: North Africa and Spain. Moorish architecture flourished in the 13th and 14th centuries. It is characterized by its use of geometric shapes, its ornateness and "horseshoe arch". Photo: Alakbar Aghasiyev, 2005.
