Oil Rocks in the Caspian
Birthplace to a New Trend in Soviet Art
"Repair Workers". One of the early works of Tahir Salahov, again expressing the bleakness and isolation of life, a reality that contradicted the official government line. The painting depicts workmen who were employed at Oil Rocks, the location where successful offshore drilling first took place in world history in 1949. (Oil on canvas, 200 x 320 cm, Azerbaijan National Art Museum, 1960).
