Personal
Experiences - These Past Ten Years
Leyla Novruzova
I think the hardest thing has been losing the sense of belonging
to a "Great Power". Suddenly, we went from being citizens
of a huge country to being citizens of a small, independent Republic
that was hardly known in the world. Foreigners could hardly even
pronounce its name. We ourselves have had to work hard to announce
our existence to the world.
I think it's important to tell my grandchildren that the role
of these ten years cannot be underestimated in terms of the development
of our nation. In the future, when we have a well-developed,
stable society, I'll teach them to value this stability because
we went through such a volcanic transitional period, when we
didn't know what to expect from tomorrow.
