Personal
Experiences - These Past Ten Years
Elnara Mammadova
For me, it's difficult to imagine what it would be like if the
Soviet Union had not collapsed. For sure, I wouldn't have had
the opportunity to work for one of the largest oil companies
in the world and develop my career in a Western business environment
or study for an MBA in Baku and travel throughout the world.
I would tell my grandchildren how Azerbaijan's independence began
and how our lives have been complicated by war during this transitional
period. I would tell them that I was a small part of this history,
too, by working with my colleagues in the oil industry to contribute
to the economic development of Azerbaijan.
I think that the issues of infrastructure development and economic
stability will be the most serious problems that Azerbaijan will
have to face these next few years.
